Mark Johnston joined Amazon Web Services in July 2014 and is responsible for AWS’ global healthcare strategy and the development of key relationships with customers, partners and industry bodies. Mark is instrumental in the organizational orchestration of key tactics, programs and services designed to bring value to the healthcare and life sciences vertical including global go-to-market activities.

Mark began his healthcare career in 1988 with Laboratory Corporation of America “LabCorp” and during his 12 year tenure with LabCorp, he served in a variety of field and corporate roles including his last position as vice president of National Managed Care and Hospital Alliances where he guided LabCorp’s connectivity strategy and sat on LabCorp’s strategic planning committee. 

In May 2000, Mark started and served as president and CEO until the company was acquired by Quest Diagnostics in April 2002.  Mark then served as the vice president of sales and marketing for MedPlus, the wholly owned technology subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics, where he managed the international sales efforts and helped to build and deploy the Care 360 product.  After leaving MedPlus, he served as vice president of sales for Practice Partner, a Seattle based EMR and Practice Management System software development company, until August of 2005 when he joined Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories “PAML”, a subsidiary of Providence Health and Services.  At PAML, Mark was responsible for the Outreach Advantage LLC, which he successfully developed and sold to a global IT company, and also served as PAML’s CIO where he was responsible for IT operations, strategy and execution across PAML and all of her Joint Ventures. 

Mark joined Microsoft in August of 2008 and led the team that is responsible for Microsoft’s vertical healthcare portfolio business strategy and partner operations.  Mark  lead the international market development efforts for the Health Solutions Group “HSG” including executing the market development strategies for all HSG products in international markets and  the development of country wide approaches to Microsoft’s connected health strategy.

Mark led the commercial development strategy during the creation of the Microsoft – GE Healthcare joint venture “Caradigm” and then assumed the newly created role of Vice President of the Platform Business, which included the general management of all facets of the Caradigm Intelligence Platform and the Caradigm Health Information Exchange.  Mark also served on Caradigm’s Executive Committee and played an instrumental role in helping to develop and shape the company’s product and business strategy.

Mark was a practicing CPA for Deloitte prior to entering the healthcare industry and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Accounting.
