February 19, 2017
9:55am - 10:30am
Plaza International DEF Ballroom

In less than a year, the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) built a cloud based data analytics platform for its 73 million beneficiary Medicaid program. This massive platform, known as the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS), will allow CMCS to make intelligent, data-driven program decisions based on information previously trapped in disparate systems all across the nation.

This session will explain both why and how the Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) built their data warehouse and healthcare analytics platform in the cloud, which was the first use of PHI in the cloud for CMS. CMS Senior Executive Jessica Kahn will discuss why CMCS moved to the cloud, how they did it, and share lessons learned that are applicable to any organization looking for actionable information in their healthcare data.

  • Lessons learned and best practices on moving to the cloud from the nation’s largest healthcare payer
  • Cultural and procurement challenges of moving to the cloud
  • The benefits of CMCS migration to the cloud (speed, agility, cost, security)
