CLOUD COMPUTING FORUM: A HIMSS EVENT
Las Vegas, NV - March 5, 2018
While hospitals and health systems have historically been somewhat tentative about mass migrations to the cloud, industry luminaries like our event host, Beth Israel Deaconess System CIO John Halamka, MD, have been making bold predictions of late about datacenters vanishing as hospitals go the cloud for analytics, EHRs and clinical decision support. Halamka, for one, has backed up that claim by placing 7 petabytes of Beth Israel's data in the cloud.
In this opening keynote session, Halamka sets the stage for the speakers to come, recounting Beth Israel's ongoing cloud journey, and explaining why going forward cloud computing holds the key to innovation, customer service, high reliability, robust geographically distributed disaster recovery, security best practices, lower cost, and enhanced scalability. Oh, yes, and for freeing up existing IT FTEs for new work.
In short, as Halamka will explain, the road to healthcare’s future – a road fraught with new reimbursement models, consumerism, increased competition, and many other challenges – runs through the cloud. And as our event host, he’ll be here all day to answer questions and elaborate on that perspective.
